Korattur Water Canal Road Traffic: Roadside Encroachments Cause Traffic Congestion

Traffic congestion is increasing on Korattur Water Canal Road due to roadside shops and pushcart vendors occupying parts of the busy road.

The Korattur Water Canal Road is an important route connecting areas such as Kallikuppam, Puthagaram and Puzhal near Ambattur. The road experiences heavy vehicle movement throughout the day, particularly during peak hours.

Several roadside pushcart shops that had occupied the road were removed around six months ago. However, more than 20 pushcart shops have reportedly returned within the past two months, leading to renewed concerns over road encroachments.

Customers visiting these roadside shops often park their vehicles along the road. This further reduces the available road width and causes traffic to slow down, especially during morning and evening peak hours.

Residents have urged the Greater Chennai Corporation and Ambattur Zone officials to take action against roadside encroachments and prevent new shops from occupying the road. Clearing the affected areas could help improve traffic flow and provide safer movement for motorists and pedestrians.
