Tamil Nadu Heatwave Alert: Temperatures May Rise in First Week of June

The Chennai Meteorological Centre has said that temperatures across Tamil Nadu may remain above normal during the first week of June, raising concerns ahead of the reopening of schools after the summer vacation.

Usually, schools in Tamil Nadu reopen during the first week of June. However, the final decision on reopening dates is taken every year based on prevailing weather conditions and heat levels.

School Education Minister Rajmohan had earlier stated that the department sought inputs from the weather department regarding the expected summer conditions before deciding on school reopening schedules.

According to recent updates from the weather department, temperatures are likely to stay higher than usual during the beginning of June. Officials reportedly informed the School Education Department that the heat may start reducing only after June 4.

Following this, there are discussions that the reopening of schools in Tamil Nadu could be delayed if the heatwave conditions continue.

The weather update comes at a time when several districts in Tamil Nadu are already experiencing intense summer temperatures and humid conditions.
