New Passport Seva Kendra Opened at Kolathur Post Office in Chennai; L. Murugan Inaugurates Facility

A new Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) has been inaugurated at the Kolathur Post Office in Chennai, further enhancing passport-related services for residents in North Chennai.

The facility was inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs L. Murugan, who officially launched the passport services by issuing a passport to a six-month-old infant.

Speaking at the event, L. Murugan said India has emerged as a global leader in digital payment transactions and highlighted the Central Government`s efforts to improve public services through post offices across the country.

He noted that post offices are being transformed into multi-service centres, offering essential services such as banking, insurance, Aadhaar enrolment, and passport-related services, making them more accessible to the public.

The Minister also said that since the Central Government assumed office in 2014 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the benefits of various welfare schemes have been transferred directly to beneficiaries` bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, eliminating intermediaries.

He added that more than 58 crore Jan Dhan bank accounts have been opened over the past several years, enabling greater financial inclusion and ensuring that government welfare schemes reach beneficiaries across all sections of society.

Highlighting India`s digital transformation, L. Murugan stated that the country has become a pioneer in electronic payment systems and stressed the need to continue strengthening world-class infrastructure. He expressed confidence that these initiatives would help India achieve its vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Chennai Mayor R. Priya, North Chennai MP Kalanidhi Veeraswamy, Kolathur MLA V.S. Babu, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs Isha Srivastava, Chief Postmaster General of Tamil Nadu Circle Mariamma Thomas, Regional Passport Officer R. Vijayakumar, and other senior officials.
