IRCTC Introduces Upgraded Website: Faster Booking, Seat Selection and Improved User Experience

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has launched a new and upgraded website designed to provide passengers with a faster, smoother and more reliable ticket booking experience.

The redesigned platform addresses several issues faced by users on the previous website, including server slowdowns, frequent CAPTCHA verification, OTP delays, failed bookings and payment-related issues, particularly during Tatkal and peak booking hours.

According to IRCTC, the upgraded website has enhanced server capacity and improved performance, enabling it to handle up to 1.5 lakh ticket bookings per minute, compared to about 32,000 bookings per minute on the earlier platform.

Key Features of the New IRCTC Website

Higher Booking Capacity: Supports up to 1.5 lakh ticket bookings per minute.

Seat Selection: Passengers can choose their preferred berth or seat during booking, subject to availability.

Fare Calendar: Compare ticket fares across different travel dates before booking.

Coach-wise Availability: View available seats in individual coaches and classes.

Regional Language Support: Improved accessibility with multiple Indian language options.

Concession Benefits: Eligible passengers can easily avail applicable fare concessions during booking.

Simplified Booking Process: Reduced CAPTCHA, fewer interruptions and a cleaner interface.

Faster Tatkal Booking: Optimised system for quicker Tatkal reservations.

Saved Passenger Details: Frequently used passenger information can be stored for faster future bookings.

Enhanced Search: Faster train search with route, timing and fare details.

Secure Payments: Improved payment processing to minimise failed transactions and refund delays.

Stronger Reservation System: Passenger Reservation System (PRS) upgraded to process up to 40 lakh enquiries per minute, significantly improving website stability during peak traffic.

The upgraded platform is expected to provide a better booking experience, especially during high-demand periods such as Tatkal bookings, festival seasons and long weekends.

Passengers can access the new IRCTC website for train ticket bookings, cancellations and other railway services.
