Tamil Nadu continues to experience intense summer heat as the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has warned that heatwave conditions may continue in several coastal districts today and tomorrow. With the ongoing Kathiri Veyil season reaching its peak, Chennai is expected to witness temperatures close to 108°F (42°C).

According to weather officials, areas including Meenambakkam recorded nearly 107°F on Wednesday, making it one of the hottest days of the season in Chennai.

Why Chennai is Getting Hotter

Meteorologists stated that the delayed arrival of sea breeze over land areas is one of the major reasons behind the sharp rise in temperatures across Chennai and coastal Tamil Nadu. Due to this weather pattern, maximum temperatures are likely to remain 3°C to 4°C above normal levels in several places.

The weather department has also warned that isolated parts of coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal may continue to experience heatwave conditions over the next two days.

Experts Warn of Rising Heat Stress

Usually, temperatures during the Kathiri Veyil season remain around 104°F to 105°F. However, the recent increase to 107°F and 108°F has raised concerns among weather experts, as prolonged exposure to extreme heat can cause dehydration, fatigue and heat-related health issues.

Residents are advised to:

- Stay hydrated
- Avoid direct sunlight during afternoon hours
- Wear light cotton clothes
- Reduce outdoor activities during peak heat timings

Despite the scorching weather, some parts of Tamil Nadu may receive light rain and thunderstorms in the coming days, which could bring temporary relief from the heat.
