Heavy Rain Alert for 14 Tamil Nadu Districts Today; Thunderstorms and Strong Winds Expected

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has forecast heavy rainfall in 14 districts of Tamil Nadu on June 18 due to prevailing atmospheric conditions over South India.

According to the weather department, a trough extending from East Vidarbha to Tamil Nadu through Andhra Pradesh and a cyclonic circulation over the southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Kerala region are influencing weather patterns across the state.

On June 18, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely at isolated places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Heavy rainfall is expected in the districts of Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Erode, Namakkal, Karur, Tiruchirappalli, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga, Ariyalur, and Perambalur. Strong winds with speeds of 40–50 kmph may also occur in these areas.

For June 19, the weather department has predicted heavy rain at isolated places in several districts, including Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Sivaganga, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Karur, Tiruchirappalli, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Cuddalore, Kallakurichi, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, and Namakkal.

Chennai Weather Forecast

Chennai is expected to witness partly cloudy skies on June 18. Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning is likely in some parts of the city. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 37–38°C, while the minimum temperature may remain between 28–29°C.

Fishermen Warning

The weather department has issued a warning for fishermen. Strong winds of 40–50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, are likely over the South Tamil Nadu coastal areas, Gulf of Mannar, and adjoining Kumari Sea region today and tomorrow. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea during this period.
