Tamil Nadu Weather: Heavy Rain Likely in 6 Districts Today

The Chennai Meteorological Centre has forecast heavy rain in six districts of Tamil Nadu today. The weather department said an atmospheric trough extends from a cyclonic circulation over Marathwada and adjoining areas to the Gulf of Mannar, passing through parts of interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Heavy Rain Alert for 6 Districts

Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Dindigul, Theni, Madurai and Virudhunagar are likely to receive heavy rain at isolated places. Thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds of 40–50 kmph may accompany the rainfall.

Moderate rain with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds is also expected at isolated locations in other Western Ghats districts, as well as Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi and Sivaganga. Similar weather conditions may prevail in Karaikal.

Tamil Nadu Temperature Forecast

The weather department has stated that there is no significant change expected in maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. From September 17 to September 21, 2026, maximum temperatures are expected to remain close to normal.
