Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Yellow Alert Issued for 8 Districts; Heavy Rain Likely Till May 31

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has issued a yellow alert for eight districts in Tamil Nadu, warning of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms from May 26 to May 31.

According to the weather department, districts including Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Nilgiris, Erode, Salem, Theni, Dindigul and Kanyakumari are likely to receive moderate to heavy rain over the next few days.

Officials said the change in weather conditions is due to atmospheric circulation over south Tamil Nadu and nearby sea regions, including the southwest Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea.

Thunderstorms and Rain Expected Across Tamil Nadu

Several parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal may experience rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning during the forecast period.

Heavy rain is expected mainly in western and southern districts, especially hill and ghat areas.

The weather department has also issued a warning for fishermen due to strong winds over sea regions.

Wind speeds may touch up to 60 kmph in parts of:

- South Bay of Bengal
- Arabian Sea
- Kanyakumari coastal region

Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea until weather conditions improve.
