Thousands of Devotees Throng Tiruttani Murugan Temple for Aadi Bharani Festival; Darshan Takes Four Hours

Thousands of devotees visited the Tiruttani Murugan Temple to celebrate the auspicious Aadi Bharani Festival, one of the temple`s most significant annual events. Large numbers of pilgrims carrying kavadis arrived throughout the day, resulting in waiting times of nearly four hours for darshan of Lord Murugan. Many devotees also fulfilled their vows by performing Alagu Kuthuthal (body piercing ritual) as an act of devotion.

Special Abhishekam and Grand Rituals

As part of the Aadi Bharani celebrations, the temple conducted a special abhishekam for the presiding deity at 3:00 a.m. Lord Murugan was beautifully adorned with a golden crown, golden Vel (spear), emerald ornaments, and diamond jewellery, followed by a special Deeparadhana.

At the Kavadi Mandapam, special floral decorations and rituals were performed for Utsava Murugan and Shanmuga Peruman, attracting thousands of devotees.

Devotees Fulfil Their Vows

Many devotees fulfilled their religious vows by carrying kavadis, shaving their heads, and participating in various traditional rituals. The temple administration reported a continuous inflow of devotees throughout the festival.

Four-Hour Queue for Darshan

Due to the heavy turnout, devotees in the general queue waited for nearly four hours to receive darshan of Lord Murugan. Devotional processions featuring Pambai drums, Udukkai, and Silambam performances added to the spiritual atmosphere of the festival.

At around 6:30 p.m., the Utsava Murugan was taken in a ceremonial procession from the hill temple to Saravana Poigai before returning to the temple after completing the traditional rituals.

Extensive Security and Festival Arrangements

Ahead of the Aadi Bharani Festival, the entire Tiruttani Murugan Temple complex was decorated with colourful lights and floral arrangements. Authorities also made comprehensive arrangements, including:

- CCTV surveillance across the temple premises
- Emergency medical facilities
- Annadhanam (free food distribution) for devotees
- Dedicated crowd management measures

More than 2,300 police personnel, led by the district Superintendent of Police, were deployed to ensure the smooth conduct of the festival and maintain law and order.

The grand celebration of the Aadi Bharani Festival at Tiruttani Murugan Temple once again showcased the deep faith of Murugan devotees, with thousands participating in special prayers, rituals, and devotional processions.
