Velachery - Parangimalai MRTS Train Service Delayed After Safety Inspection
The launch of the MRTS train service between Velachery and Parangimalai (St. Thomas Mount) in Chennai has been delayed after the railway safety inspection team recommended additional track work.
The service was planned to start on March 10 as part of alternative transport arrangements following the reduction of suburban train services due to the ongoing redevelopment of Chennai Egmore Railway Station.
A team led by the Commissioner of Railway Safety conducted a detailed inspection of the track on March 5, travelling along the route and examining the safety conditions of the railway line.
Although the safety inspection has been completed, officials said that final approval to start train operations has not yet been granted. The inspection team has suggested carrying out a few additional works on the tracks before services can begin.
Authorities stated that the Velachery–Parangimalai MRTS train service will begin once the recommended safety works are completed and approval is issued.
