Chennai MTC Invites Tenders to Procure 1,000 AC Low-Floor Electric Buses
The Metropolitan Transport Corporation in Chennai has invited tenders to procure 1,000 air-conditioned low-floor luxury electric buses to strengthen public transportation across Tamil Nadu.
Existing Electric Bus Fleet
Earlier, the transport corporation had already procured 625 low-floor electric buses, including air-conditioned buses, to modernize the city’s bus services.
These buses were introduced for public use in five phases between June 2025 and March 2026, improving passenger comfort and supporting eco-friendly urban transport.
Plan to Procure 1,000 New Electric Buses
Now, the transport corporation plans to purchase 1,000 additional AC low-floor electric buses under a Gross Cost Contract (GCC) model, which allows private operators to supply and maintain buses while the corporation manages operations.
Tender Submission Details
Companies interested in participating in the tender process can download the application documents from the official website of the Metropolitan Transport Corporation.
Tender submission period: March 25 to April 7 (until 4:00 PM)
Tender opening: April 7 at 4:30 PM
Officials stated that the contract will be awarded to eligible companies, and the buses will be procured soon and introduced for public use.
The initiative is expected to enhance passenger comfort, reduce pollution, and strengthen sustainable public transport in Chennai.
