Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme: CM Vijay Has Breakfast with School Students

CHENNAI: Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, who launched the expanded Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme for Classes 6 to 8, sat with school students and had breakfast with them at a government school in Thiruvanmiyur on Tuesday.

The expanded scheme was launched at the Chennai Middle School in Gandhi Gramam, Thiruvanmiyur. The extension covers students studying in Classes 6 to 8 in government and government-aided schools.

During the launch event, Chief Minister Vijay served sweet pongal to the students before joining them for breakfast.

The breakfast programme was initially introduced in 2022 with the aim of improving students’ nutrition, health, school attendance and learning. It was later extended to government-aided schools.

As part of the latest expansion, around 15.30 lakh additional students studying in Classes 6 to 8 across 15,454 government and government-aided schools are expected to benefit from the scheme.

After having breakfast with the students, Chief Minister Vijay visited the classrooms and reviewed the arrangements. He also enquired about the quality of the food being served to the students.
