Tamil Nadu Rain Alert: IMD Forecasts Light to Moderate Showers in 10 Districts
The Regional Meteorological Centre Chennai has issued a short-term rain alert for parts of Tamil Nadu, predicting rainfall in 10 districts over the next two hours.
According to the latest bulletin, rain is expected to continue until 10 PM in:
Coimbatore, Dindigul, Kanniyakumari, Madurai, Tenkasi, Theni, Nilgiris, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Virudhunagar.
Reason Behind the Rainfall
The weather department stated that a low-level atmospheric circulation is currently prevailing over South India. Due to this system:
- South Tamil Nadu districts
- Western Ghats districts
- Adjoining interior regions
may receive light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in isolated places.
However, the remaining districts of Tamil Nadu, along with Puducherry and Karaikal, are likely to experience dry weather conditions.
Tamil Nadu Weather Forecast for Friday
- Light to moderate rainfall is expected in South Tamil Nadu coastal districts and Western Ghats regions.
- Other parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal will remain mostly dry.
Forecast for February 28 & March 1, 2026
- Western Ghats districts may receive light rainfall at isolated places.
- The rest of Tamil Nadu is expected to continue under dry weather conditions.
