Tamil Nadu Secures ₹15,300 Crore Investment Commitments During CM Vijay’s UK Visit

The Tamil Nadu government has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and secured investment proposals and commitments worth more than ₹15,300 crore during Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s visit to the United Kingdom. The proposed investments are expected to generate more than 10,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities across the State.

The agreements were signed on September 14, 2026, in London between Guidance Tamil Nadu, the State’s investment promotion agency, and participating companies in the presence of the Chief Minister. The proposals cover key sectors such as automobile component manufacturing, research and development, renewable energy, power equipment and Global Capability Centres (GCCs).

Samvardhana Motherson Plans ₹11,000 Crore Investment

Among the major agreements, Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd plans to invest approximately ₹11,000 crore to expand its design, engineering, manufacturing, integration and logistics operations across various locations in Tamil Nadu.

The proposed investment is expected to create around 7,000 jobs and further expand the company’s operations in the State.

Wilson Power Solutions to Invest ₹300 Crore

UK-based Wilson Power Solutions has signed an MoU to invest ₹300 crore in the next phase of its transformer manufacturing operations in Tiruvallur district.

The proposed expansion is expected to create around 400 new jobs and strengthen the State’s electrical equipment manufacturing sector.

Global Capability Centre Investments in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli

Sweden-based Sigma Technology Group has signed an agreement to expand its Global Capability Centres in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli through its Indian entity. The expansion is expected to create around 600 high-value jobs, particularly in areas such as embedded systems, electrification and industrial digitalisation.

Meanwhile, Ernst & Young (EY) has signed an MoU with Guidance Tamil Nadu to establish a GCC for an international company under a Build-Operate-Transform-Transfer model.

The proposed facility will be located along the Mount-Poonamallee Road GCC corridor in Chennai. The project involves an investment of around ₹1,000 crore and is expected to create more than 2,000 jobs.

European Auto Component Manufacturer Plans ₹3,000 Crore Investment

A leading European automobile component manufacturer has submitted a Letter of Intent (LoI) to establish its first Indian manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu.

The proposed project involves an investment of approximately ₹3,000 crore.

Hinduja Group Discusses Further Investment Opportunities

During the UK visit, senior executives of the Hinduja Group, including Ashok Leyland Executive Chairman Dheeraj Hinduja and Finolex Industries Executive Chairman Prakash P. Chhabria, met the Chief Minister.

They discussed the progress of a ₹2,500-crore MoU signed during the VETTRI investors’ meet in August 2026. Discussions also covered potential investments in renewable energy, particularly wind power, and opportunities to increase exports of commercial vehicles manufactured in Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu-UK Business Opportunities

During his meetings with investors, the Chief Minister highlighted opportunities arising from the UK-India Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement and encouraged companies to explore opportunities involving trade, investment and raw-material sourcing with Tamil Nadu.

Guidance Tamil Nadu officials also held discussions with 10 leading companies from different sectors. These discussions could lead to further business engagements, including a potential visit by a UK aerospace and defence delegation to Hosur and a UK Mayoral Commission team to Chennai in October.

The investment announcements cover manufacturing, technology, automotive, renewable energy and GCC sectors, adding to Tamil Nadu’s ongoing efforts to attract international business and expand employment opportunities. The announced figures represent investment proposals and commitments, with the eventual implementation depending on individual projects.
