Tamil Nadu DEE Tightens Verification of Teachers' Educational Certificates

The Tamil Nadu Directorate of Elementary Education (DEE) has issued fresh instructions to strengthen the verification of educational certificates submitted by teachers working in government and local-body schools. The move aims to ensure that teacher appointments are supported by genuine and valid educational qualifications.

Educational Certificates to Be Verified Promptly

According to the latest circular, educational certificates submitted by teachers must be forwarded to the concerned university, educational institution, examination board or government examination authority for authentication.

The DEE has instructed officials to complete the certificate verification process promptly after a teacher joins service, instead of allowing verification to remain pending for several years.

Delays Could Affect Transfers and Promotions

The department noted that delays in obtaining genuineness certificates can create administrative difficulties, particularly when teachers apply for transfers, promotions or other service benefits.

Officials have therefore been instructed to maintain proper records and closely monitor the progress of certificate verification. This is expected to ensure that pending verification cases are followed up and completed within a reasonable timeframe.

Action Against Fake Educational Certificates

The circular has also warned that appropriate departmental action must be initiated without delay if an educational certificate is found to be fake, invalid or otherwise unacceptable.

Where required, further action should be taken through the competent authorities in accordance with the existing rules and procedures.

District Officials Directed to Ensure Compliance

District educational authorities have been directed to communicate the new instructions to the concerned officers and ensure strict compliance with the certificate verification process.

The Tamil Nadu government`s move is aimed at streamlining teacher certificate authentication, preventing the use of fraudulent educational qualifications and ensuring that only properly qualified teachers continue to serve in government and local-body schools.
