Chief Minister’s Fire Service Medal for Gallantry

The State government also announced the Chief Minister’s Fire Service Medal for Gallantry for R Rajasekar, who serves as a Fireman Driver in Nagercoil.

Recalling the incident that led to the gallantry award, the government said Fireman Rajasekar was returning home after completing his duty when he received information that a girl, Vaishnavi, and a boy, Sailesh, had been swept away by strong currents at Lemuria Beach in Nagercoil.

Rajasekar immediately rushed to the spot and rescued Vaishnavi. Sailesh had already been rescued by members of the public, according to the government statement.

The government said Fireman Rajasekar risked his own safety to save the girl’s life. His courageous act was highly appreciated, and he will be conferred the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Fire Service Medal for Gallantry in 2026.

The announcement highlights the bravery and dedication of personnel serving in Tamil Nadu’s police, fire and rescue, prison, home guards and other uniformed services.
