In a significant development for Tamil Nadu rail passengers, the Tiruchirappalli – Tambaram Special Express has been officially converted into a permanent train service starting March 1. The train, which was operating under special numbers 06190 and 06191, will now run regularly with new train numbers 16808 and 16807.
The decision comes after consistent requests from passengers and public representatives to make the service permanent due to increasing demand between central Tamil Nadu and Chennai suburban regions.
New Train Numbers and Operations
Train No. 16808 – Tiruchirappalli to Tambaram
Train No. 16807 – Tambaram to Tiruchirappalli
The train will operate five days a week, excluding Tuesday and Wednesday.
Tiruchirappalli to Tambaram Timings
Departure from Tiruchirappalli: 5:35 AM
Arrival at Tambaram: 12:30 PM
Tambaram to Tiruchirappalli Timings
Departure from Tambaram: 3:30 PM
Arrival at Tiruchirappalli: 10:40 PM
The schedule is designed to suit business travelers, students, and daily commuters traveling between Trichy, Delta districts, and Chennai.
Coach Composition (18 Coaches)
The express train will include:
- 2 AC Coaches
- 8 Reserved Seating Coaches
- 6 General Coaches
- 1 Divyangjan Coach (for differently-abled passengers)
- 1 Luggage Coach
This configuration ensures comfortable travel options for both reserved and unreserved passengers.

The Tiruchirappalli–Tambaram Express will halt at:
Thiruverumbur, Thanjavur, Papanasam, Kumbakonam, Mayiladuthurai, Sirkazhi, Chidambaram, Tirupadiripuliyur, Panruti, Villupuram, Tindivanam, Melmaruvathur, and Chengalpattu before reaching Tambaram.
