Akshaya Tritya which is also called as Akha Teej is considered as an auspicious day by Hindus. The eve falls on 21st April this year and this will be the 3rd lunar day of Shukla Paksha. This is believed to be their lucky day for all Hindus. Sun and moon will be extraordinarily bright on this day.

Akshaya means endless. Hindus believe the three lunar days - Yugadi, Akshaya Tritiya and Vijay Dashami do not require any muhurtha or auspicious timing to being good deeds as the entire day is considered propitious. Jewelers also believe their jewels will be safe and have their shop open till late night.

Stories with Akshaya Tritiya:

It is said lord Krishna and his poor Brahmin childhood friend, Sudamana were there. Sudama once arrived at Krishnas place seeking for financial help. Sudama brought hand full of beaten rice to gift Krishna. He however felt ashamed to offer it to the lord, but Krishna relished having it. Krishna follows `Atithi Devo Bhava` principle which says guests are god and he treated Sudama like a king.

Overwhelmed by the affection and hospitality shown by Krishna, Sudama returned home empty handed. On his return, he found his old hut transformed into a palace. The entire place was royal will expensive things all around.

Sudama realized that all of these are a boon from Krishna who has blessed him with more than what he wanted. Hence, Akshya Tritiya is considered a day of wealth and gain.
