Introduction of facility to watch movies in Auto!

New auto rickshaws with meters and more navel facilities were introduce in Adyar yesterday.
With meters and gadgets of latest technology fitted, the autos, known by the name ‘people’s auto’ (makkal auto) will provide a safer and more comfortable ride.
Matching the facilities available in the vehicles in foreign countries, the autos are fitted with the latest android technology – the meter, ‘3G’ data, GPS facilities, electronic ticketing are some of the highlights. The friends & relatives of the passenger will know the travelling route. Through their cell phones.
Approval from central government and RTO is awaited for the computerized auto.
In the first stage, 100 autos have been fitted with this technology. The cost is Rs. 15000/- per auto. However, these have been fitted free of charge keeping the additional service facilities in mind.
In the second stage, 600 more autos will be fitted with this technology.
The plan is to introduce this technology in all the 71000 autos plying in Chennai. Each auto is also fitted with a ‘tip box’. The tips collected will be used for the welfare of the drivers’ family welfare.
Movies can be watched on the meter. With the advertisement revenue from the movie screening, will be used for recovering the cost of fitting and providing this facility in all autos.
The centre for this is located in Teynampet. Mr. Mansur Ali Khaan has started this project in association with a Singapore Company, Terratech.
