3.89 Lakhs persons screened at free medical camps in Chennai

3.89 Lakhs persons were screened by doctors at medical camps organized by Chennai Corporation at 1,000 localities in the city from 5th December to 9th December. “More than 20,000 require tertiary medical intervention,” said P. Kuganantham, City Health Officer. A number of homeless, migrant labourers, women and children participated in the camp inaugurated by Mayor Saidai Duraisamy on Thursday. Over 160 Corporation doctors, 700 private doctors and 2,000 public health employees participated in the camps.
 
Doctors from some of the private hospitals will also offer tertiary care free of cost to the persons in need of such intervention. Other patients will get treatment at government hospitals with the guidance of corporation public health officers. All the data collected from the residents has been computerized.
 
The civic body focused on five neighborhoods in each of the 200 wards for the camp.
