Intensification of renovation works at Egmore railway station!!

With 100% completion of foundation bars laying work to construct a multi-storey parking area near Gandhi-irwin Road, the renovation works for Egmore railway station has now intensified.
One of the major railway stations in Chennai is Egmore railway station. It must be noted that the railways dept has decided to renovate the 100 year old Egmore station to world class standards.
In February 2023, the renovation works began at Rs 734.91 cr here by taking into consideration the train operations and arrival of passengers etc for the next 50 years. In the first phase, foundation laying work started here after the demolition of staff quarters and removal of trees etc
It is noteworthy that a multi-storey car park would be constructed near Gandhi-Irwin Road and for that 100% of foundation bars laying work plus 80% of foundation laying works got completed.
Near the Poonamallee High Road, a multi-storey parking area would be constructed and for that 85% foundation bars laying works and 33% foundation works have been completed now. Point is that in coordination with CMRL, a multi-storey parking area would be constructed on Gandhi-Irwin Road and on the Poonamallee High road. Shifting of the Parcel office to a new location is also going on.
The officers from Southern Railways have explained that the renovation works of Egmore railway station have intensified now. Construction of a multi-storey parking area on Gandhi-Irwin Road and on Poonamallee High Road has been going on now in full swing. They have revealed that the bars were fixed several feet below the ground for foundation purposes. In some places, foundation work has been going on. The officers have concluded that the parcel office of Egmore railway station has been shifted temporarily to Gandhi-Irwin Road now.
