Passengers Express Concerns Over Last-Mile Connectivity Following Relocation of SETC Buses to Kilambakkam Bus Terminus

Posted on: 01/Jan/2024 1:57:03 PM
In a move aimed at alleviating congestion in Koyambedu, the newly inaugurated Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus at Kilambakkam has seen the transfer of 300 State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) buses bound for Tiruchi and Madurai from Koyambedu. While this shift is expected to ease traffic in the bustling Koyambedu area, it has given rise to concerns among long-distance passengers hailing from southern parts of the state.

One prominent worry among commuters is the potential increase in travel expenses incurred to reach the city from the relocated Kilambakkam bus terminus. Situated at a considerable distance from central areas and lacking a suburban train facility, the new terminus poses challenges for passengers relying on last-mile connectivity.

This Sunday marked the relocation of 300 SETC buses, originally operating on Grand Southern Trunk (GST) Road, to Kilambakkam. Following Pongal, additional buses from the remaining five State Transport Corporations are scheduled to join operations at the new facility.

In an effort to address last-mile connectivity concerns, the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) plans to operate approximately 4,100 trips from Kilambakkam to Tambaram, Guindy, and Koyambedu.
