The State Government of Tamil Nadu`s Department of Electricity has ambitious plans to establish wind and solar energy power stations with a power generation capacity of 4000 MW, all within a budget of Rs. 720 Crores.

To maximize power output from renewable sources, the Central Government is actively pursuing the second phase of the Green Corridor Plan. As part of this initiative, a 400 kV substation will be erected in Samoogarangapuram, Thirunelveli District. Additionally, substations with a capacity of 230 kV each are slated for installation in Muppandhal, Kanyakumari District, and Poolavadi, Tirupur District.

The Ministry of Renewable Fuel under the Central Government approved the implementation of this project in January 2022. Subsequently, the Tamil Nadu State Government`s Electricity Department released tenders, and the project is scheduled to kick off in March 2024, with an anticipated completion timeframe of 18 months.

Senior officials from the Department of Electricity have conveyed that upon project completion, an additional 4000 Megawatts of electric power will be made available.
