Diwali Celebration Brings a Day Off for Koyambedu Vegetable Market

Posted on: 09/Nov/2023 11:20:36 AM
In honor of Diwali festivities, Koyambedu vegetable market will be closed on November 13, extending a holiday to over 1900 vegetable shops. The decision stems from the collective participation of farmers and traders in Diwali celebrations.

M. Thiagarajan, President of the Koyambedu Market Tomato Traders Welfare Association, explained that the farmers, who play a crucial role in supplying vegetables to the market, will be observing Diwali with their families. Consequently, the usual activities of picking and sending vegetables will be put on hold for the day.

In addition to farmers, truck drivers are expected to travel to their hometowns for Diwali celebrations, leading to a temporary scarcity of vegetables in the market on November 13. Thiagarajan emphasized that this decision was specific to the Koyambedu vegetable market, ensuring a day off for the traders and participants in the market.
