CMRL Advises IPL Fans to Purchase Regular Travel Tickets for Playoff Matches in Chennai

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has issued an advisory for cricket enthusiasts attending the upcoming IPL playoffs, scheduled to be held on 23rd and 24th May 2023 at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. In light of the fact that these playoff matches are being organized solely by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), without collaboration with CMRL, IPL tickets will not be valid as travel tickets for these matches.
During previous collaborations with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for league matches held in Chennai, CMRL allowed IPL tickets to be utilized as travel tickets. However, as the upcoming IPL Playoffs have no association with CMRL, this facility will not be applicable. As a result, passengers are advised to purchase regular travel tickets to commute to the stadium.
To ensure a hassle-free travel experience, CMRL encourages passengers to avail themselves of digital modes for ticket purchase. Options such as WhatsApp Ticketing (918300086000), Static QR codes, or the CMRL Mobile App can be utilized to purchase Metro Train tickets. It is advisable to obtain round-trip tickets in advance, as ticket counters may not be operational after 11:00 pm.
In order to facilitate the safe return of cricket fans, CMRL will extend Metro Train services until 01:00 am on both 23rd and 24th May 2023, ensuring convenient transportation post-match.
