The construction of houses in Chennai would become easier and faster!!
The plan, permission and building permit etc would be linked seamlessly and by this constructing houses will be faster. The online planning permission software belonging to CMDA or Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority has been integrated with that of GCC.
It was confirmed by an officer from CMDA that after obtaining CMDAs planning nod, the builder just has to apply for the building permit online with the Chennai corporation. Truth is that GCC would be able to see all the relevant documents and the approval plans. The residents will be able to track the applications.
Previously, the resident who wanted to build his/her house in Chennai would have to go to the corporation office to apply for the building permission. This was after getting the planning nod through a tedious process. It is true that the documents of the public would get misplaced and it would take 8 months to get planning and building approvals. The good news is that now if all the documents are proper then the planning and building permission would be given in just 40 days.
The software of the local bodies in the CMA or Chennai Metropolitan Area Would be linked with the software of the GCC. The GCC rolled out a website for online planning commision in May 2022 is known. Not only that, from june to December 2022, GCC got 602 applications for Non High Rise Buildings. There was a delay in granting permissions because of some issues in the software etc.
Information gathered is that most issues have been resolved now and from Jan 2023 to March 2023 232 applications were received for NHRBs and 122 permissions were given.
To keep an eye on the number of applications received and cleared, meetings were scheduled regularly. This was as per Mr. Sekar Babu, minister of CMDA.
