Many requests made, but haphazard parking of vehicles in Pondy Bazaar is going on creating issues for many!!

It is known that GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation has allowed 2 wheeler parking on both sides of the road  in the very busy Pondy bazaar in south chennai. The GCC wants to make mobilty easy and quick for the commuters. A parking fee of Rs 15 per hour is being charged from the 2 wheeler owners. Now, many passengers have been forced to walk to the road to get into the MTC buses here as many vehicles have been parked haphazardly in front of the bus stand.

It was pointed out by H. Mamtha that the buses do not have enough space to halt in front of the bus stand and hence the buses are stopped on the main road itself leading to heavy traffic congestion. The GCC must take steps to make sure that the individuals do not park their vehicles in front of the bus stand.

As per a contract staff it was clear that despite many requests made to the public not to park their vehicles in front of the bus stand the public do not bother about that.

For better traffic regularisation, GCC would associate with the GTCP and this was mentioned by a senior official from GCC. He hinted that strict action has been taken on the vehicles that violate road and traffic rules. He added that a proposal was submitted to the govt regarding toeing away the vehicles that are parked at non-parking places for more than 10 hours. This would be implemented by the government soon.
