The renovation-cum-modernization project is in progress in the Railway Stations under the 6 Divisions of the southern Railways.
In the 1st Phase of this project. It has been planned to rake up the renovation/modernization project in 9 railway stations. As such, the Railway Administration has decided to take up the renovation/modernization work of several other railway stations.
In this project, 15 stations are to be taken up – Ambattur, Arkonam Junction, Chengalpattu Junction, Chennai Beach Station, Guduvancherry, Guindy, Gummidippundi, Jolarpettai, Mambala, Park Station, Perambur, Parangimalai (St. Thomas Mount), Chromepet, and Thiruthani.
The officials of the Chennai Metro City Railway Division shared in this regard:
"In the first phase of this project, the renovation/modernization work will be taken up for 15 railway stations. The main objective of this project is to enhance the various facilities for the passengers1
In the 2nd Phase, the other balance railway stations will be taken up for renovation / modernization.
NOTE THAT FUNDS OF Rs. 5 - Rs. 10 crores will be allotted for each Railway Station.
Based on the implementation of all large-scale projects, the first phase of this renovation project is scheduled to be conducted by the end of the Financial Year 2023-24!"
