As the prices of the vegetables shot up in the Chennai Koyambedu wholesale vegetable market, there were no buyers for the same and the vegetables are beginning to rot!

Tough cyclone Mandous has crossed the coast, and it has been raining persistently in Chennai Metro City!

As a cyclonic format is prevailing in the upper layers of the atmosphere over the Bay of Bengal, there have been persistent heavy downpours in Chennai Metro City!

Due to this, the arrival of vegetables from various places to the Chennai Koyambedu wholesale vegetable, fruit, and flower market has been severely affected! In turn, this reduction in the quantity of vegetable arrival has been reflected in vegetable prices. As such, the price of vegetables has skyrocketed in just 1 or 2 days!

Especially, beans, and flat beans which were sold at Rs. 20/- per kg until 2 days ago, are now sold at Rs. 30 to Rs, 35/- per kg!

The price per kg of bitter gourd, brinjal, and ridge gourd (patangikkai) has gone up by Rs.10/-!

The price of tomato has gone up appreciably – tomato which was sold 2 days ago at Rs. 12/- to Rs. 17/- per kg is now being sold at Rs. 30/- per kg!

The price of drumstick (murungaikkai) has gone up to Rs. 30/- per kg!

As the downpour has abated a bit, the prices of vegetables have started reducing!

Once the inclement weather abates, it is expected that vegetables will be sold at the old rates in a day or 2!

At the same time, the quantity of arrival of vegetables from various districts and the states has reduced greatly, a situation has arisen when this reduced quantity of vegetables has started rotting!
