These days, the modes of transport for the school going students vary from autos to school buses to even boats!!

Two prominent suburbs in Chennai Iyyappanthangal and Moulivakkam have been flooded now due to the heavy rains and the parents here have started to use boats to ferry their school going kids.

After the onset of NE monsoons in Chennai many localities are now flooded. There are 5000 families present in areas like Dhanalakshmi Nagar, Sai Nagar, Ponniamman Nagar etc. These come under the Kancheepuram district and they have been flooded.

It was mentioned by a resident from Dhanalakshmi Nagar that he has been using his own boat and ferrying  school going kids. The areas were regularised by the previous govt reign from the unauthorised layouts. Truth is that many tanks were filled to develop layouts. He threw light on how after the regularisation of unauthorised layouts there was a delay in the flood mitigation infrastructure for about 5 years. This has led to several civic issues in the locality.

According to the panchayat president of Iyyappanthangal it was clear that the govt has sanctioned an amount of Rs 120 cr for the flood mitigation works and the work would be completed soon.

As per some officials, many of the flood mitigation works like canals, drains etc have been taken up in the neighbourhoods. They added that the faulty construction of Maduravoyal Bypass has led to many civic issues and these have been identified. It was mentioned by an officer from WRD that the department is now in the final stages of completing projects like cut/cover drains etc worth more than Rs 100 cr. Till now, more than 90% of the work has been completed.

As the district administration has launched a few projects, the water level was expected to go down after 6pm. This was stated by an officer of Kundrathur block in Kancheepuram district.
