Know about the Tele MANAS that was launched yesterday by the health minister of TN?

On Thursday, 27th October 2022, the health minister of Tamil Nadu Mr. M. Subramanian caught the attention when he launched a helpline for tele-mental health assistance. By calling, 14416, the round-the-clock service Tele-MANAS can be assessed.

It is noteworthy that the main objective of the initiative Natpudan Ungalodu Mananala Sevvai was to provide mental health assistance for 24 hours through a tete platform. There would be counselling services plus video consultations with psychiatrists and guidance for continuous treatment would be provided. The health minister brought out that the initiative is manned by 2 psychiatrists, 4 psychologists and 20 counsellors. It must be noted that the initiative has been rolled out at a cost of Rs 2.06 crores.

There would be a link between all the PHCs plus GHs and government medical college hospitals etc with this initiative. Integrated mental health services would be provided for the public.

Mental health support forums or `Manam` was launched recently at the govt medical colleges hospitals in TN. It is now clear that the services would be offered in coordination with the TN governments scheme of Naan Mudhalvan Thittam and Students in Responsible Police Initiatives.

Counselling services are being provided to many by state health helpline 104 and as many as 110971 students have ben benefited by the counselling services. These students appeared for NEET in 2021. Point is that as many as 145988 students who appeared for NEET 2022 have also received counselling. The District Mental Health Programming team provided additional counselling and guidance to as many as 564 students who needed special focus.
