Sensational news about metro train expansion in Chennai!!

Those persons who are confused regarding the mode of transport to the upcoming Greenfield airport at Parandur have now got a reason to rejoice!!
The news is that the metro line phase 2 of 118.9kms would be covering another 93kms up to Parandur. It is worthy to note that a Rs 61843 crores metro phase-2 project has been planned with 3 corridors. These 3 corridors are namely Corridor-3 of 45.8km Madhavaram- siruseri line, Corridor 4 of distance of 26.1km from Light House and Poonamallee, Corridor 5 of a distance of 47km from Madhavaram to Sholinganallur.
It is now mentioned that corridor 4 would be extended till Parandur 50km, Corridor 5 to Avadi through Thirumangalam and Mogappair 17kms and Corridor 3 from Siruseri to Kilambakkam bus stand via Kelambakkam of 26kms.
As per some officials from CMRL, a consultant would be hired soon to do the detailed feasibility study for these extensions and to submit a report with recommendations. To select a consultant, a request has been floated now by CMRL. The existing reports like comprehensive mobility plan, present transport routes etc would be studied thoroughly by the consultant. In another few months, the consultant would come out with the reports.
Various things that would be present in the report of the consultant are congestion levels, peak hour travel, travel demand in these corridors in the next 30 years, estimated cost required to build these corridors plus the funding from public/private, social and environmental aspects etc.
It was brought out by some CMRL sources that there are also plans to extend metro trains from Chennai to Kilambakkam. It is known to us that at Kilambakkam a new bus terminus would be coming up. The DPR regarding this has been submitted to the TN government by the CMRL. The commuters would have access to the Kilambakkam bus terminus from different locations by this new line.
