Central Government approval: for the PEN symbol to be set up near Karunanidhi Memorial!

The Central Government has approved the Tamil Nadu State Government`s proposal to set up a `PEN` symbol adjacent to the former Chief Minister Karunanidhi`s Memorial in the Marina Beach area.
A memorial is being set up for the Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and the President of the political party DMK, Karunanidhi, behind the Anna Memorial at Marina Beach. It was announced that a memorial will be built covering 2.21 acres for Rs. 39 Crores.
A contract was applied for the set up of this memorial with the Coastal Regulation zone Commission. This district-level coastal regulation zone put up certain conditions for approval writing to the State Government of Tamil Nadu. After clarifications, approval for this project was given in January.
The State Government of Tamil Nadu decided to set up a `PEN` symbol at 137` high in the sea, in honour of Karunanidhi, at 650 metres distance from the Karunanidhi memorial for Rs. 81 Crores.
In this scenario, the Public Works department commenced the activities for getting approval from the coast regulation commission for setting up the `PEN` symbol!
This memorial, set up by the Public Works Department for Rs. 81 Crores, the Chennai District Coastal Regulation Commission has approved. Now, the Public Works Department has commenced activities to get approval from the Central Ministry of environment and climate change and the coastal regulation Commission.
Tamil Nadu Public Works Department has written in August to the Central Ministry of the environment to take up the estimation of the extent of this project`s effect on the environment.
Subsequently, the Central Government has given the 1st Phase of approval for the `PEN` symbol project!
The Central Government has informed us that public opinions / suggestions / recommendations must be gathered along with approval from the environment department before commencing this project!!
In this regard, the Tamil Nadu Public Works Department has informed us that the First Phase of approval has been obtained for the setting up of the `PEN` symbol project and there are several more clearances/permissions to be obtained in several phases!
