Thanks for the steps that are being taken by the Chennai Corporation. In the future, Chennai would have additional 5594 street lights and 856 high mast lights. An amount of Rs 33.57 crores would be spent on this lighting. The Chennai city corporation`s electrical department has been maintaining as many as 291415 LED street lights in Chennai now.
Under the Nirbhaya Scheme of protection for women, more street lights would be installed in Chennai and this was mentioned by Mr. K.N. Nehru, municipal administration minister for Tamil Nadu.
It must be taken into account that at present as many as 1104 energy saving LED lights are being installed in several localities in Chennai such as Thiruvottiyur, Manali, Madhavaram, Ambattur, Valasaravakkam, Perungudi and Sholinganallur etc. This was confirmed by the statement belonging to GCC.
Under the Nirbhaya Fund, for a huge amount of Rs 2273 crores, as many as 3794 streetlights and 38 high mast lights are being installed as per the safety based requests from the corporation. As many as 1987 rusty and short street lamp poles would be replaced at an estimated cost of Rs 7.53crores.
