Another jolt - for the public: tollgate charges up from today (1st September) in Tamil Nadu!

There are more than 800 tollgates throughout India. Out of these tollgates, toll charges are being collected in 566 tollgates!
Out of these 566 tollgates which collect toll charges, 48 tollgates are located in Tamil Nadu State! These toll charges are being collected to meet the expenses for the development and maintenance of the National and State Highways!
Gove n the above situation, the Central government has now announced that tollgate charges are being revised upwards in 28 tollgates in Tamil Nadu from today (Thursday, 1st September).
As such, tollgate charges are increased by Rs. 5 for cars, vans, and jeeps. The toll charges for trucks, buses, and multi-wheelers are increased by up to Rs. 150/-.
It may be noted that the tollgate charges in all Tamil Nadu were revised upward as recently as April this year! Now, with barely 4 months past, this new increase in tollgate charges has shocked the vehicle owners/drivers!
The tollgate charges are vexing revised from today (Thursday, 1st September) in 28 tollgates in Tamil Nadu including Ulundhurpettai, Vikravandi, Omanur, Dharmapuri, Samayapuram, and Karur.
As regards Samayapuram, the one-day crossing charge remains the same at Rs. 45 whereas the monthly charge has been revised from Rs, 1400 to Rs. 1605. For buses, it has been revised as Rs. 185/- from Rs. 165/-. The monthly charge for buses has been revised as 5620/- from Rs. 4905/-. For lorries, it is revised from Rs. 265/- to Rs. 300/-. Monthly charges for Lorries have been revised from Rs. 7880/- to Rs. 9035/-!
All the above revisions are by 15% increase! Similar to the tollgate in Samayapuram, more than 2000 vehicles pass daily the tollgate at Thuvarakkudi near Thiruverumbur. The tollgate charges for jeeps passing this have been revised from Rs. 65/- to Rs. 75/-.For buses and Lorries, it is revised from Rs. 230/- to Rs. 260/-!
For multi-trips per day for cars, it is revised from Rs. 100/- to Rs. 110/-.For lorries and buses, it is revised from Rs. 344/- to Rs. 385/-. For cars and jeeps, monthly toll charges are revised from Rs. 1995/- to Rs. 2210/-! For lorries and buses, it is revised from Rs. 6845/- to Rs. 7735/-!
