Allotment of alternate spaces for pushcarts - What TN govt has decided now?

In case of any dispute, the differently able persons or PWD would get preference from the Tamil Nadu government now in getting alternate spaces for pushcarts. An order has been released by the TN state government in this regard.

Under the TN street vendors (Protection of their livelihood and regularisation of street vending) scheme 2015, it was clear that the Municipal Administration and Drinking Water Supply Department would issue certificates of street vendors on priority to PwD. This move is being appreciated by the differently able activists now as it would help them to cope up with the loss incurred during the Coronavirus pandemic. Truth is that the activists have asked the urban local body to pass the message to all the stakeholders.  It is true that most of the schemes of the urban local body don`t satisfy the needs of the differently able persons.

In the state of TN, there are as many as 13.35 lakhs of differently able persons and more than 70percent of these are not educated. This was according to a report from UNICEF. Point is that among the working population in the community aged between 18 and 60, 97% are engaged in jobs outside the unorganised sector. The announcement from the TN government is an important one for these differently able persons in TN. This was as per Mr. S. Namburajan, the state general secretary, TN Association for the Rights of All Types of Differently able and Caregivers.

For the differently abled persons, livelihood has become a major problem after the Coronavirus pandemic. Many do not have jobs and their families are finding it tough to eat 3 meals per day. It was later revealed by T. Nagar resident S. Shilpa with a physical issue, that the TN government must make sure that there is no delay in providing the permissions for setting up of pushcarts.
