Prospects for very heavy rains in 5 districts!

The Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has informed us that there are prospects for heavy rains today (Wednesday, 24th August) in 5 districts in Tamil Nadu.

In a notification released on this news by the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre, it is mentioned:

"Due to the cyclonic formats prevailing in the upper layers of the atmosphere over Tamil Nadu, there are prospects for widespread mild to medium rain in Tamil Nadu, Pudhhcuhery, and Karaikkal.

There are prospects for widespread heavy to very heavy rains in a few places with lightning and thunder in Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagappattinam, and Thiruvarur districts.

There are prospects for heavy rains in 1 or 2 places in Nilgiri, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Theni, Dindigul, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Pudhukkottai, Erode, Trichy, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Trichy, Kallakkurichi, Thirunelveli,  and Kanyakumari districts and Puducherry.

Further, it is estimated that heavy rains will persist for 5 days from today (Wednesday, 24th August)  in several districts in Tamil Nadu.

As regards Chennai Metro Coty, the sky will remain somewhat cloudy in the next 48 hours. There are prospects for mild to medium rain with lightning and thunder in a few parts of the city. The maximum temperature will be 34.35 Degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature will be 26 Degrees Celsius.

The rainfall recorded in the last 24 hours in cm: Needamangalam – 11, Vedharanyam, Namakkal Collector Office -10, Jayamkondan and Keezhacheruvai -9.

For Fishermen:

Kanyakumari - Lakhdiv areas, Kerala and Karnataka coastal areas, and the adjacent southeast and the central-east Arabian Sea: high-speed winds may blow at 40 – 50 kmph. So, fishermen in these areas are cautioned NOT to venture into these seas!
