Presidency College in Chennai is grabbing the limelight now due to the amazing number of applications it has received this year!!

National institutional Ranking Framework or NIRF has been released recently regarding the colleges across India that are best. Chennai based Presidency College was ranked third by NIRF is well known to us. Now, the news is that many students are queuing at this college to get enrolled.

The surprising piece of information is that for just 1106 UG courses, Presidency College received 95136 applications. In 2021, this college received just 53668 applications. Every year, this college receives 30000 to 35000 applications only and it went more than 50000 last year as both CBSE and state board has declared all passes for class 12 students.

It was mentioned by the Presidency College principal Mr. Raman that the chief minister took part in the convocation on 5th July and appreciated the college and later on NIRF ranking was published. This was responsible for more applications received this year.

The principal then explained that there has been a wrong perception about the college till now even though the college produced sensational personalities like Sir. C. V. Raman etc. He was happy regarding the increase in the number of applications and pointed out that the wrong perception about the college has changed.

It was highlighted by some faculty members of the Presidency College that many students from rural places and from disadvantaged backgrounds chose Presidency College as they were not able to get admission in other colleges in Chennai. This was due to the negative reviews about the college. Now, many top scorers in class12 have applied for this college.

It is learnt that only those students who have secured 95% or 380 out of 400 have been called up for the first phase counselling from 5th August for the Commerce stream. The cut off marks for all other subjects have increased by 2 to 4% in this academic year in Presidency College. The number of girl students would be increasing and this was according to some college officials. In 2021, 873 out of 3316 UG students in this college were girls.
