Renovation work of Egmore Railway Station in full swing! Ultra-modern station to reopen by 2026!

An announcement has been for undertaking the contract work for the renovation of the Chennai Egmore Railway Station to be of world-class! Interested concerns are to submit their tenders!
Egmore is one of the major railways stations in Chennai Metro City. It is 114-years old with beautiful architecture.
There are 35 express trains and 240 suburban electric trains passing through Egmore Railway Station every day!
Over 24000 passengers visit Egmore Railway station daily! A revenue of Rs. 125 Crores was earned in the financial year 2021-22 by this important Egmore Railway station!
An appeal was made to renovate this old historical Railway Station! Further, a proposal was made by the Indian Railways to renovate this historic Railway Station world-class!
Considering the above appeal and proposal, the Railway Board granted approval for the project of renovation of Egmore Railway Station at a cost of Rs. 760 Crores.
Subsequently, the initial stage of the project commenced.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Chennai Metrio City on 26th May and in an inaugural function, laid the foundation for the renovation project! Subsequently, the invitation for tenders for undertaking the renovation of Egmore Railway Station was announced!
SO far, 4 major companies including L & T and Tata have submitted their tenders. The contract is likely to be finalized by the end of this month (august) and project work will commence!

The officers in the Engineering Department are scrutinizing the tenders received for the renovation of Egmore Railway Station to finalize the tender.
It has been decided to complete the renovation in 3 years.
It is further decided that the renovated Egmore Station will be opened for public service by the year 2026.
The renovation work will be carried out in an area of 69425 sq. ft. In order to meet te requiremetns for the next 50 years, the latest technology facilities are to be provided.
Separate entires and exits will be set up for a large number of passengers to enter and exit the station!
The present buildings in the station, platforms and the surrounding areas will all be renovated! Facilities will be created for the train services and maintenance. The ramps for differently-abled citizens will be provided. Other essential facilities/equipment such as escalators, cranes, etc., will be available.
World-class lodging/staying facility will be made available There will be a solar power station to take care of the electricity requirement of the renovated Egmore Railway Station.
Modern car-parking facilities will be provided at either side of the Railway Station. CCTVs will be set up throughout the station to facilitate 24-hours monitoring!
