Popular virologist Dr. Jacob John is hogging the limelight now!!
It is known that diseases like polio, measles, influenza etc would provide immunity after vaccination. The virologist mentioned that the Coronavirus infection was totally different and would re-infect even those who are vaccinated if their immunity is low.
He added that safety measures like wearing facemasks, maintaining social distance and washing hands with hand sanitizers were important. Even vaccinated persons would get re-infected with Covid-19 if they do not follow these above said measures.
He explained that Covid-19 protocols must be followed without fail plus booster doses must be advocated immediately as coverage in India was less than 5percent. Point is that the Corona virus would be staying with the people and the public must ensure that various precautionary measures are followed.
It is noteworthy that this is an endemic phase of Covid-19 and the infection spreads due to new births and growths. The primary infection would be present in new births etc and there would be re-infection also in the already vaccinated persons.
He hinted that monitoring daily cases would not be as helpful when compared to monitoring the average of 7 days. Fact is that this average has not yet crossed 10000 in India till now.
All medical infrastructures have been ready in case of an emergency situation and this was according to Dr. V. Manivannan, Vellore corporation officer. He shed light on the continuous monitoring of active Covid-19 cases plus on the availability of oxygen cylinders and ICU beds etc.
