Pollution in Chennai is now under control, but it might change all of sudden!!

It is true that Chennai city has been experiencing easterly winds and this has led to a decrease in the air quality levels. In the Chennai city, the pollution recorded was within the permissible limit of 60 grams per cm3 in the last 2 weeks. The pollution levels might become more soon due to the change in the wind pattern. From the beginning of May, Chennai experienced atmospheric circulation is known.
It must be noted that from the morning city experiences southerly winds and sex breeze would set in by noon. This would bring the pollution down in Chennai city. Throughout this May month, air quality levels improved in Chennai and this was according to the Central Pollution Control Board or CPCB. On Wednesday, pollution level of PM 2.5 recorded in Alandur was 34microgms per cubic metres.
Other places like Manali, Arumbakkam, Perungudi etc recorded pollution levels of 36 micrograms per cubic metre, 29 micrograms per cubic metre and 14 micrograms per cubic metre respectively. The pollution levels in these places were satisfactory and they do not pose any risk.
Manali recorded decreasing air pollution levels of 60 micrograms per cubic metres. Other places like Perungudi, Alandur and Arumbakkam recorded 51 micrograms per cubic metres, 47 micrograms per cubic metres and 45 micrograms per cubic metres respectively. This was on 4th May 2022.
There was a decline in the air pollution levels in Chennai in the last few weeks and that was due to changes in weather conditions. This was according to an officer belonging to TNPCB. He hinted that if the temperatures increase then the air pollution levels might become more in Chennai. For atleast 6 months, the air quality index of TNPCBs official website was not functional. This might be due to server problems and NIC is looking into this issue now and this was as per an official.
