The surprising piece of news for the residents of Chennai is that hereafter the stretch of ECR (from Chennai to Mamallapuram) would be called Muthamizh Arignar Kalaignar Karunanidhi Salai.

This was announced by the chief minister of TN Mr. M.K. Stalin yesterday. Yesterday, the state highways department celebrated its 75th anniversary and the CM of Tamil Nadu made his presence felt. He spoke about how the announcements made for the state highways department were dedicated to former CM of Tamil Nadu Dr. M. Karunanidhi. It must be noted that the former chief minister was the man who was responsible for implementing some important projects of the state highways department.

Quality of the roads must be given importance and these roads would bring either appreciation or disgrace to the government. Providing accident free roads would be the main objective of the present TN government. This was as per the chief minister Mr. M.K. Stalin. He concluded that the accident free roads along with the economic development and industrial development and tourism etc have made many people happy.

It is learnt that the necessary infrastructure has been created by the state highways department and this has touched the lives of many people in the state. Delays in the implementation of various projects have been attributed to the land acquisition process.

There would be construction of a flyover at Madhya Kailash junction in Adyar in the future at a cost of Rs 46.54 crores and a foundation stone was laid by the chief minister. Near Rajaji Hospital in Goripalayam in Madurai also there would be a flyover and it would be built at a cost of Rs 199.12 crores.  As many as 32 projects were launched by the chief minister for the sake of widening of 255km roads and a total amount of Rs 2124 crores would be spent for this under the chief minister’s road development fund in as many as in 13 districts in Tamil Nadu.

The 75th anniversary celebrations of the state highways department also saw the presence of various important personalities like Mr. E.V. Velu, minister of highways, Mr. M. Subramaniam, minister for health, Mr. V. Irai Anbhu, chief secretary etc.
