The public faced extreme difficulty without the MTC buses on the first day of the nationwide strike in Chennai and they were left stranded. On day 2 of the nation-wide strike, yesterday, MTC operated nearly 64% of its fleet.

As many as1673 MTC buses operated yesterday to help the passengers to reach their destinations in Chennai city and in the suburbs. Point is that MTC has a total fleet of 2595 buses. Ninety two percent of the bus services have been operated by all the state transport undertakings.

It must be noted that TN state transport corporation Coimbatore, Salem, Kumbakonam, Villupuram, Madurai, Tirunelveli operated 92% to 100% of its normal bus services. On Monday, in Chennai, 2.10 lakh passengers travelled by metro trains and this was more when compared to the average daily footfalls of about 1.5lakhs passengers.

It is worthy to note that due to the decision taken by the protesting unions to allow public transportation for the sake of the public, almost all buses resumed services on Tuesday. Mr. Natarajan, DMK affiliated LPF treasury, mentioned on Monday itself that 60% of buses on Tuesday for the public. Only the office bearers of the transport union would take part in the strike and this was decided by the trade unions.
