Why do motorists have to be extra careful while driving through Tondiarpet in north Chennai?

North Chennai is highly congested is a well known fact. In Tondiarpet, the damaged roads often pose lots of issues for the commuters. Truth is that driving here has become so risky and this important north Chennai zone has turned into an accident prone zone. Here, many two wheelers skid on the damaged road frequently and get injured.
It was later mentioned by an auto driver that the roads here were damaged even before the metro rail work began. The commuters have been forced to travel on the damaged road as the route has been diverted. He added that in the rainy season it would be very tough to drive vehicles in this place.
Many complaints have been raised by the locals here with the civic body regarding two wheelers skidding and walkers tripping over etc. No permanent measure has been taken till now despite many complaints. As per a resident of this place it was clear that in the pest one or two accidents took place but now many accidents take place. She added that the area has become accident prone. During the evenings, the absence of street lights has been creating many issues.
According to a senior officer belonging to the Tondiarpet Corporation zone, metro train underground work hasn’t yet been completed between Tondiarpet and Clock Tower. He threw light on how in the rainy season M-sand would be put temporarily to avoid accidents. The roads would get damaged as the vehicles pass through the roads daily. Proposal for relaying would be submitted and carried out once when the work gets over.
