On Thursday, 27th January 2022, the state government of Tamil Nadu had discussions with National Highways Authority of India or NHAI for resolving issues pertaining to the project delays. The state government also gave its approval to build a 20.6km double-decker elevated highway between Chennai port and Maduravoyal. In the next 2 weeks of time, a memorandum of understanding or MoU for this Rs 5000 crores project would be ready. As per an officer it was clear that the MoU would be sent to all stakeholders and once they concur the MoU would be sent to the ministry for signing.

The officer later mentioned that initially this project would cater to the Chennai Port traffic but later on it would be modified for the tier-1 local traffic. It is worthy to note that the MoU was prepared during the AIADMK government but it underwent some changes suggested by the present DMK government. The state government would extend full cooperation to the NHAI to expedite all the projects. This assurance was given by the CM of TN Mr. M.K. Stalin to Mr, Nitin Gadkari, union minister for road transport and highways. Legacy issues from the past have been responsible for the delay in the projects and this was as per the CM. Five special land acquisition and management units have been formed by TN to expedite land acquisition. To avoid cost overrun and time run in the acquisition, 18 field units have been appointed.

It was mentioned by an officer that the issue over four laning of the stretch from TN Kerala border to Kanniyakumari was also resolved.
