It is well known that to eradicate polio completely an annual drop in camp for the children of age 5 is being held and the polio drops are being given in 2 installments every year.
The superb news is that India has eradicated polio two years back and in the last 2 years polio vaccination camps for the kids were conducted just once in the year.
It was earlier announced by the Federation Department of Heath that in 2022 the polio vaccination camp would be held on 23rd January. The Omicron spread has led to a third wave in many states in India with a high number of cases. It is known that vaccination for Coronavirus is going on now plus kids in the age groups 15 to 18 are getting vaccinated. Therefore, the health department had requested the Central government to change the date in view of the situation of the employees.
The latest news is that the polio vaccination camp has been shifted to 27th of February 2022. In 2021, 17 crore children in India were vaccinated against polio and this was done with the help of 24 lakh volunteers. Those kids with Corona symptoms must not be given polio dose and kids recovered from Coronavirus could be given polio dose.
