The presence of garbage transfer points is an issue for the residents belonging to Kathivakkam in Ennore in north Chennai now.

A local market here has been selling vegetables and other provisions. The residents of Kathivakkam wanted GCC to shift the garbage transfer point near this market to another place.

It was brought to light by a resident belonging to Nettukuppam that tricycles as well as mobile bins were brought to this place every day. He threw light on how the garbage gets piled up here and how it causes bad smell attracting insects etc. The students studying in a school near this place get affected also. Another resident belonging to Nehru Nagar expressed his thoughts and spoke about how residents belonging to 7 localities like Nehru Nagar, Sathya Nagar, Bhadrakali Nagar etc shop at this market. Demand from the residents to shift the dump yard has been going on for a long time.

Near the Kathivakkam road over bridge, the conservancy staff segregate, dump and burn garbage and this has been creating many issues for the residents here. This must be stopped immediately.

According to Mr. J.R. Mohan, Ennore Anaithu Gramam Nala Sangam Arakattalai spoke about how a garbage transfer point has come on a community hall that was constructed by the former chief minister of TN Mr. M.G. Ramachandran for the sake of the residents. He added that the community hall was not kept open for long. This was followed by the construction of a dining hall and that was also demolished even before it was opened for public usage. Point is that the residents now want a community hall there and want GCC to shift the garbage point near the market.

It is now mentioned by an official source belonging to GCC that they would look into the request from these residents.
