New Park and Playground at 21 Acres at Kilambakkam!

Chennai Metropolitan Development Agency has decided to set up a new park and playground covering 21 acres at the new Kilambakkam Bus Terminus adjacent to the Chennai Metro City Vandalur.
Certain new bus termini were decided to be set up as a measure to reduce the severe traffic congestion caused by the outstation buses entering and leaving the Chennai Metro City. These bus terminus places included Madhavaram, Vandalur-Kilambakkam, and Thirumazhisai-Kundambakkam.
An announcement by the Department of Archaeology
To set up the New Kilambakkam Bus Terminus, 88.52 acres of land were acquired. As some archaeological items are stored in this area, the Department of Archeology had announced this as a protected place.
As such, the Department of Archaeology was finally permitted to proceed with the setting up of the new bus terminus at Kilambakkam. The foundation for the construction of the new bus terminus construction was laid in the year 2019.
The construction, with a cost of Rs. 400 Crores is now 50% complete. It is expected that the remaining work will be expedited and the construction will be completed by 2022 for the new Bus Terminus at Kilambakkam to start function! As such, the construction activates are being expedited and the progress is in full swing.
Setting up of a Park
When the Department of Environment permitted the new bus terminus construction, certain restrictions were imposed. As per this, an sp[ecified area of the Bus Terminus Complex MUST be maintained as a Green Area.
In this regard, a higher official from CMDA shared:
“As per the restriction/guideline given by the Environment Department, we have planned to convert 21.5 acres of land as a Green Area!
As compensation for the emanation of exhausts from the vehicles causing pollution, we have planned to construct a large park and also playgrounds.
During a recent meeting of the Project Committee, approval was given for this proposal to set up a large park and playground.
Once the construction of the New Bus Terminus gets completed, the setting up of the park will be confirmed. “
Complete Solar Facility
The main building in the Kilambakkam Bus Terminus will be a double-storeyed construction. It is planned to set up solar panels on the terrace of this building to facilitate solar power.
The solar facility will be set up on the terraces of the other constructions in the complexes well! As such, this solar power would cater to 50% of the power requirement.
In the recent CMDA meeting, approval has been granted for taking up the required activities for this solar panel part. Subsequently, all activities for setting up the solar power panels would be taken up shortly!”
