It is known that to reduce the traffic congestion in Chennai city a 55km metro train service is being operated between Chennai airport-Wimco Nagar and Chennai Central-St Thomas Mount. The Metro train project is being implemented on 3 routes in the second phase. Point to be noted is that the 3 routes are Madhavaram- Siruseri, Madhavaram- Sholinganallur and Lighthouse- Poonamallee of 118km. Work has been going on in full flow now.

It is learnt that especially the Purasawalkam highway has been converted into a one-way road and the road from Purasawalkam BSNL signal to Kelly’s Road has become one-way now. The CMRL has barricaded the section of the road now and the vehicles have been moving in one direction only. Those vehicles heading towards Purasawalkam via Kelly’s Road have been diverted to another road. Information is that those vehicles that are going via Kelly’s Road and heading towards Purasawalkam pass through Nagappa Road and Bains School now.

The officials and others belonging to CMRL are now very busy in digging tunnels with giant cranes and machinery near Purasawalkam BSNL signal. This has been due to the phase 2 of the metro rail project.  The progression in the work has now made the officials plan regarding starting works from Purasawalkam BSNL office junction to Doveton. The officials belonging to CMRL have planned to finish the work in the stipulated time without creating any issues to the traffic and public. By 2026, this metro rail phase-2 works would be completed and later the metro train services would begin.
