GEM Hospital to conduct Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Week

On the occasion of the World Pancreatic Cancer awareness month GEM Hospital, India’s premier Gastroenterology, laparoscopic and Robotic surgery hospital, will conduct Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Week from 24th to 30th November 2021. This awareness camp is open for the public from 8.00am to 3.00pm on all days. 
 
The week long-free camp will have Pancreatic Experts from GEM Hospital conducting free consultation, blood test, ultra sound screening for all patients with jaundice, weight loss, abdominal pain and diabetes. Patients with known disorders like pancreatic stones, pancreatitis, pancreatic cysts & pancreatic tumors can also make use of the camp. As a part of the awareness programme, experts would also be conducting a webinar to answer most of the common queries of the public on pancreatic diseases.
 
Dr. C. Palanivelu, Chairman & Founder, GEM Hospital said, “Pancreatic cancer is the 8th most common cancer in women and the 10th most common cancer in men. This highlights the importance of creating awareness among the public about this aggressive disease so that they do not ignore the symptoms and get themselves investigated early, to receive the best possible surgical cure on time”.

Ever since the world`s first totally laparoscopic Whipple`s procedure was performed by Prof. Palanivelu, Chairman - GEM Hospitals Group, in the year 1998, GEM Hospital team has performed the largest series of laparoscopic surgeries for Pancreatic cancer in the country. The team has published over a dozen publications in reputed International and national journals on the surgical management of this disease, including the First Randomised Control Trial on this topic (PLOT trial) in BJS and ISLPR "Coimbatore Summit statements"  in Surgical Oncology.
